SKELETONS IN THE CLOSET =
BORDER CROSSING PROBLEMS

Do you have a skeleton in your closet?  Have you ever been arrested anywhere in the world?    If so, you may need special permission to enter the U.S.  Your past may come to haunt you at the border.  Did you know:

  • The U.S. government does NOT recognize Canadian pardons;
  • New documentary requirements for entering the U.S. will allow the government to access your old criminal records;
  • Arrest records for simple possession of drugs, theft, fraud can be problematic;
  • Absolute and conditional discharges can be problematic and result in refusal to the U.S.

Don’t take a chance—it is never a good idea to show up at the border to “see what happens.”  Call our office to see if your arrest record will pose a border-crossing problem.

Also, the government often makes improper determinations regarding a foreign national’s ability to enter the U.S.  Make sure that you really do need that waiver before spending the time and money on it.  Call us for confirmation of your inadmissibility.

PRIOR REFUSALS OR REMOVAL FROM THE U.S.

Have you been refused admission to the U.S.?  Have you  been deported or removed from the U.S.?  If so, often times you need special permission to reenter the United States.

WHO NEEDS A WAIVER TO ENTER THE U.S.?

Did you know you may need a waiver to:

  • Vacation in the U.S
  • Attend a business meeting
  • Attend a job interview
  • Attend a sporting event or concert

Don’t risk being turned away at the border.  Save yourself the embarrassment.

PRIOR CONVICTIONS - OPTIONS & RELIEF

Impact of a Criminal Conviction on Your Immigration Status

Did you take a plea agreement without realizing you could be deported or denied entry into the U.S.?

If so, Berardi Immigration Law may be able to help.

As you’ve probably learned, a criminal conviction can seriously impact your immigration status – even if the conviction was minor. You can lose your green card, face deportation, and be denied entry into the U.S. – forever.

But there’s hope.

Many state laws require that courts tell defendants when they enter into a plea agreement that it may result in deportation or refusal of entry into the country. However, oftentimes, the courts fail to do so... more details »

HIRE U.S. IMMIGRATION LAWYERS, not forms preparation companies

We are a team of skilled immigration lawyers and legal professionals. We limit our practice solely to U.S. immigration, making us the best choice for your U.S. entry needs.

Many companies offer similar services but are not licensed attorneys.  Be wary of “forms preparation” companies or “immigration specialists” – entrusting your U.S. immigration matters  to a company that is not authorized to practice law may carry very serious consequences.

Our office handles dozens of nonimmigrant waiver applications each year.  If you have been advised to obtain a nonimmigrant waiver or suspect that an old conviction may render you inadmissible to the U.S., please contact Berardi Immigration Law, P.C.
